Sheldon and Lynn Goldstein
Devoted public servants Lynn and Sheldon Goldstein, Suffern, are the lead honorees of the JCC Rockland's 20th Annual Gala Dinner Dance, where several other community leaders will be lauded as well.

The event, being held April 13 at the Rockleigh Country Club, in Rockleigh, NJ, is one of the JCC's largest fundraisers. This year's goal is to raise $200,000 from the congratulatory journal and more than 250 people are expected to attend the celebration, which begins with cocktails at 6 p.m.

"Rockland County could not have better community partners in Lynn and Shelly Goldstein," said David Kirschtel, executive director of JCC Rockland.

Together for 57 years, the couple has been active in Rockland County real estate development since 1953. Over the years, they have donated a 10-acre park to the village of Suffern, a cardiac care waiting room at Good Samaritan Hospital, and built and donated the Eugene M. Levy Recreation Center for Camp Venture in Haverstraw.

Lynn's service to the Jewish community includes being a life member of Hadassah and past-president and life member of the Brandeis University Women's Division, a Lion of Judah with UJA Federation Women's Division and other philanthropic activities.

Lynn and Sheldon have been supportive of Israel. Together they sponsored the building of a day care center and library along the Lebanese border. They have been large donators to Migdal Ohr, a school for wayward children and supported the school since 1987.

The JCC Rockland was envisioned in the living room of Allan Eisenkraft, along with the late Ruby Josephs and Sheldon Goldstein. Twenty-five years later, their vision has been realized and the new spacious lobby has been named for the Goldstein family.

"Because of the relationship that we've had with the JCC," said Sheldon Goldstein, "this honor ranks higher than most honors we have received over the years."

Lifelong residents of Rockland County, the Goldsteins are parents of Jeffrey and his wife Susan; Mark and his wife Lainie; and have five grandchildren.

Steven Silverstein
In addition, to the Goldsteins, Steven Silverstein will also be honored, receiving the Community Service Award. He sits on the JCC Rockland's board of trustees and is a member of the Rotary Club of New City. He has served as a board member and vice president of the Rockland Jewish Community Center Corporation.

As a longtime resident of Rockland County, Silverstein, a principal in the law firm of Schwartz and Silverstein, LLP, graduated from Ramapo High School and went on to attend Cornell University and New York University Law School He has served as a pro bono counselor for the JCC Rockland for more than 10 years and most recently represented them in the acquisition of the new Jewish Community Campus.

"As a board member," said Kirschtel, "Steven's help has been invaluable."

"As a board member of the JCC and former board member of the RJCC, I have found that donating my legal services is a good way for me to be active and make a contribution," said Silverstein, who resides in New City with his wife, Susan, and two daughters, Molly and Ruby.

Finally, the JCC Rockland will also be awarding its first ever "J-Award" to Elena Heydt, a
Elena Heydt
15-year JCC Rockland employee. As the fundraising director, Heydt is being recognized for her outstanding effort coordinating the many fundraisers needed to help the JCC thrive.

"Elena is a real asset at the JCC," said Kirschtel. "Her experience and dedication have made a difference here over the years, and I have truly enjoyed working with her."

Married to Arnold, Heydt is the mother of Sara and Alex, who practically grew up at the JCC.

"When I decided to work as the staff person on call in the after school enrichment program, I enrolled Alex in the activities," said Heydt. "While he was learning to play tennis, I would also be able to work. As my children grew, my responsibilities grew."

The J-Award will be presented every year to a dedicated employee of a local not-for-profit agency.
