Recent Afghan refugee Nelofar will share the story of her life in Afghanistan and her family’s struggles to immigrate to the United States at Beth Am Temple's Refugee Shabbat on Friday, October 10 at 7:45 pm. Nelofar will speak about being a member of the first Afghan team to run an ultramarathon and organizing the first-ever all-girls marathon in Afghanistan. The now Rockland County resident will discuss how her activism led her to become a gender rights activist for UNESCO. The service sponsored by the Beth Am Social Action Committee will begin at 7:45 pm and will be followed by an Oneg with traditional Afghan desserts.
