Rachel Chanin, a Jewish woman from Philadelphia, is quickly reaching the tipping point of having lived longer in Serbia than she has in the US. After finishing Akiba Hebrew Academy and getting a joint degree in urban studies and modern Jewish studies at Columbia and JTS she went off into the world. First stop was Israel and then she became a JDC Service Corps Volunteer in Belgrade, Serbia. That one-year commitment has miraculously been extended 20 times. In the meantime she married the rabbi, had two wonderful daughters and learned how to make kosher sauvignon blanc. When she is not helping her husband in the Jewish community she works with KEC, an NGO she co-founded to help improve the lives of people with special needs in Serbia.
For Lion of Judah and Pomegranate Society members giving a minimum of $5,000 and $1,800 respectively.
