The Jewish Federation of Rockland County recently joined a Partnership2Gether coalition that is working to enhance life for Israelis living in the Afula-Gilboa region of Israel. We are pleased to report that the programs supported by the coalition are already starting to positively impact the Jewish and Arab Israelis living there.
One such program is a reconstructive dental clinic for adults, many of whom have had little or no dental care prior to visiting the clinic. As such their needs for reconstructive dentistry are acute, and Federation is happy to “make smiles possible” by supporting the work of this practice.
Other Partnership2Gether projects would bring Afula-Gilboa residents to Rockland, to share their unique talents with our community. For example, “Olive Tree” artists – Jewish and Arab women from Afula and surrounding villages – would share their artwork with our community through exhibitions and workshops. Another group that could make their way to Rockland this year is a delegation of distinguished chefs from the region.
According to Gary Siepser, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Rockland County, “By supporting the projects in Afula-Gilboa and showcasing that work in Rockland, Federation is acting as an advocate for Israel and its vitality."
Carol Blau is the lay leader responsible for Rockland’s participation in Partnership2Gether. If you are interested in learning more about the program or getting involved, please leave a message for Carol at Federation’s offices: 845-362-4200.
