By popular demand, more Jewish history in a nutshell. An extension of last semester’s course, we will examine the following topics: The Balfour Declaration (1917), the White Papers (1922-1939), Protocols of the Elders of Zion (1903), Birobidzhan (1920's), the Open Door Closes (1925), Mordecai Kaplan (1934 on), The Exodus and Illegal Aliyah (1947) and Operation Magic Carpet (1949-50). In addition to the factual matter, we will discuss causes, consequences and what we can learn from these highlights (and lowlights) of history.

Instructor Bios

Rabbi Chaim Zvi Ehrenreich

Rabbi Chaim Zvi Ehrenreich is the Spiritual Leader and Executive Director of Chabad of The Nyacks.Rabbi Ehrenreich, his wife Chaya and their family reside in Upper Nyack having been residents of Rockland County since 2001. Rabbi E has a love for learning and teaching a variety of Judaic subjects to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. He teaches numerous classes regularly at Chabad of The Nyacks, MBCM, a Yeshiva High School for girls and various other venues.

Rabbi Daniel Pernick

Rabbi Daniel Pernick was ordained at the Cincinnati campus of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 1982. He has served as Rabbi of Beth Am Temple in Pearl River since 1985. Rabbi Pernick has made adult education and community outreach central features of his rabbinate. A past president of the Rockland Board of Rabbis and a two-time past president of the Pearl River Interfaith Council, Rabbi Pernick served as campus minister and adjunct faculty member at St. Thomas Aquinas College for 20 years.
