It had been our original plan this year to focus our Pesach giving on food insecurity, both here and in Israel. Federation has a year-round commitment to helping those in need, especially at holiday times, and with your help we will continue to do so. However, as events in Israel and around the world unfold, we need to pivot our attention to a larger appeal.
This month, as we transitioned from Purim celebrations of salvation from an existential threat in Persia, to Pesach celebrations of freedom and liberty, through the miracles and the story of the Exodus, an appeal to the resilience of our people feels more real than ever before.
On Pesach, we read in the Haggada that in every generation - “Bechol Dor Vador” - we must reckon with the reality of liberation from oppression and slavery - like Iranians are doing right now. And we must always be on guard, as the Haggadah also calls the night of the Exodus “Leil Shimurim”, - a night of watchfulness.
And so, in true Seder fashion, we pose a question: What does all this mean for us, today, right here in Rockland?
Reflecting the realities on the ground today, whether it’s the war with Iran, attacks across the diaspora, or local security concerns, the Jewish people are living an “Ein Brera” moment - we have no choice - we MUST be resilient. Today we are shifting into our Resilience Campaign for Am Yisrael. Once again, you can demonstrate our people’s resilience.
