The Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland County mourns the passing of Rita King, mother of Carol King-Berkman, and mother in law of Rabbi David Berkman. As many of you know, Carol is a clinician at Rockland Jewish Family Service, an educator, facilitator, lecturer in several organizations, including Federation's own Midreshet programs. Mrs. King was a survivor of two labor camps and five concentration camps during the Shoah. May her strength and fortitude inspire all of us to the learning and remembrance that our identity demands, and may her family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

I wanted to share with you a recent article quoting Eric Fingerhut, President & CEO of Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), discussing the pace and new horizons on fundraising for the Ukraine crisis. Our efforts here, and those among our sister Federations across North America, are a significant and important part of the total funds raised and deployed to the crisis. But our responsibility for one another doesn't begin and end in emergencies. As Eric said, "...we’re in this business year-round, not just when there’s an emergency."

Whether we are helping a vulnerable family meet immediate food needs, or a local community that deserves to feel secure, we're in this business year round, too. It's what we do. As a community, as a people, as a Federation.
